In the second half of 2024, YG delivered two floor shot blaster units to Turkey—one for a viaduct bridge deck waterproofing project in Istanbul, and the other for runway maintenance at Antalya Airport. The two customers had different applications and different model choices, but the same goal: to complete large-area concrete surface preparation within a tight schedule, while meeting environmental and quality requirements. Case 1: Istanbul Viaduct Bridge Deck Waterproofing
Customer Needs
A professional bridge waterproofing contractor in Istanbul, Turkey, took on a six-lane viaduct deck renovation project in the city centre. The deck area was about 8,000 m², with the old waterproofing layer aged and cracked—it had to be completely removed and replaced with a modified bitumen waterproofing membrane. The contractor faced two main issues: first, traffic could not be fully closed, with only an 8-hour daily daytime working window; second, strict environmental rules near the Bosphorus meant that dust and noise from traditional sandblasting or milling would cause complaints. They needed a high-efficiency, dust-free concrete surface preparation solution that could provide a uniform roughness.
YG Solution
Based on the customer’s conditions—concrete deck texturing, CSP 3–5 roughness requirement, 8,000 m² area—YG recommended the YG-550/600 twin-wheel concrete shot blasting machine. With a 550-600 mm working width and 400 m²/h concrete cleaning efficiency, the entire deck could be finished in just 4 days (8 hours per day), leaving plenty of time. The eight-core automatic backflush dust collector ensured dust emissions met local standards without affecting the surrounding area. Steel shot consumption at 10 g/m² meant only about 80 kg of shots were needed for 8,000 m²—very economical.
Case Process
The customer sent photos of the deck and the project area with their enquiry. YG’s technical team replied the same day with a model recommendation and a construction plan, along with videos of similar bridge projects. The customer was particularly concerned about dust collection and working width, so YG provided additional explanations on the eight-core dust collector’s filtration principle and on-site dust concentration test data. After two rounds of technical confirmation and one video call demonstration, the customer ordered one YG-550 twin-wheel unit plus two tons of spare steel shots. The equipment was shipped by sea from China to Istanbul’s Ambarli Port—the whole journey took about 28 days.
Results
After arrival, the customer’s team spent half a day on assembly and commissioning. In actual operation, the YG-550 achieved an average treatment speed of 420 m²/h on the bridge concrete—slightly higher than the rated efficiency. The entire 8,000 m² deck was textured in just 3.5 working days, two days ahead of schedule. Surface roughness tests showed CSP 4, which fully met the waterproofing membrane bonding requirements. There were zero complaints from the surrounding area during construction, and the client’s site manager approved the cleanliness.

Case 2: Antalya Airport Runway Rubber Removal and Maintenance
Customer Needs
Antalya is a major tourist city in southern Turkey, with busy airport traffic. Rubber deposits on the runway touchdown zone had accumulated year after year, and the friction coefficient had dropped below safety standards—regular removal was required. The airport maintenance contractor responsible for the runway had about 12,000 m² to treat, but flight operations only allowed a night-time window from 22:00 to 06:00, giving only 5–6 hours of actual work per night. The customer had previously used hand-held grinders for edge areas, but that method was far too slow for large-scale runway rubber removal—it took two weeks for one maintenance cycle. They needed a concrete floor bead blaster that could complete the entire runway rubber removal within one week.
YG Solution
YG recommended the YG-850 twin-wheel floor bead blaster. With an 800 mm working width—the widest in YG’s line-up—and ≥600 m²/h concrete cleaning efficiency, the 12,000 m² could be finished in 6 nights (5 hours per night). The machine used 1.5–1.8 mm steel shots, which effectively stripped rubber deposits without damaging the concrete substrate. The eight-core automatic backflush dust collector ensured no dust emission during night work that could affect adjacent runway operations.
Case Process
During communication, the customer had only two core requirements: treatment efficiency must be above 500 m²/h, and the machine must cover at least 3,000 m² within 5 hours. Based on those figures, YG directly recommended the YG-850 and attached case reports from similar airport runway rubber removal projects. The customer also checked steel shot consumption and wear part life in detail—YG advised that the directional sleeve and blast wheel last about 20,000 m², and the top and side guards about 50,000 m², so for a 12,000 m² runway job, the wear part loss was well within acceptable limits. The customer confirmed the order within a week and arranged sea freight—the equipment was shipped from Tianjin Port to Mersin Port, then trucked to Antalya, taking about 32 days in total.
Results
After arrival, Ahmet Bey’s team ran a trial during the first night-time working window. In actual testing, the YG-850 achieved a stable processing speed of 580–620 m²/h on the runway concrete. Rubber deposits were completely removed, and the surface friction coefficient rose from 0.35 before treatment to above 0.65—meeting the ICAO-recommended standard. The entire 12,000 m² runway was completed in just 5 night shifts, two days earlier than the customer’s expected 7 nights. No dust escaped during construction, and flight operations on the adjacent apron were unaffected.

FAQs about Floor Shot Blaster
Q1: What surface roughness level can a floor shot blaster achieve on concrete?
A1: Typically CSP 3–5, depending on steel shot diameter, walking speed, and blast wheel speed. For bridge deck waterproofing, CSP 4 is recommended; for runway rubber removal, CSP 3 is usually sufficient.
Q2: How often do wear parts on a concrete shot blasting machine need replacement?
A2: The directional sleeve and blast wheel last about 20,000 m²; the top and side guards last about 50,000 m². Based on the usage frequency in the Turkish cases, core wear parts should be inspected and replaced roughly once a year.
Q3: Can a floor bead blaster treat rust on steel surfaces?
A3: Yes. Using 1.5–1.8 mm steel shots on steel plates can achieve SA 2.5 to SA 3 rust removal grades, with processing efficiency of about 100–160 m²/h (YG-850 model).
Q4: Is steel shot consumption high for a concrete floor bead blaster?
A4: Average consumption is about 10 g/m². For an 8,000 m² bridge deck, only about 80 kg of steel shots are needed, and most of it can be recycled and reused.
Q5: Do operators need special training?
A5: Operation of a floor bead blaster is relatively simple—the main points are controlling walking speed, adding steel shots, and adjusting the blast angle. YG provides a complete operation manual and setup videos, and remote video guidance can be arranged during commissioning. Most operators can get started within half a day, and after practice, one person can handle large-area construction independently.
